Students were asked to design 3 sets of characters based on themes of their choice (Robots, plants, and demons). The characters had to be drawn on multi-media paper provided with dip pen ink and had to be colored using watercolor paint. The designers’ goal was to create a sense of claustrophobia by filling the space with overlapping characters leaving a 1-inch margin around the content.

After creating 3 pieces the designers were then asked to choose one of the characters they designed and bring them to life through animation. Using Adobe Animate students created short animation clips of any length focusing on entertainment value and story narrative. The animations also had to include the element of sound.
