MENU
REDESIGN

Design students were asked to redesign the menu for the local Japanese restaurant, Kunkio’s Terriaki. After research and reconnaissance at the restaurant, the designers had to make informed decisions to create a cohesive design style that incorporated elements of Japanese culture, visuals, and iconography. This redesign had to incorporate all the existing copy, but designers were not bound to any of the original visual concepts. Using a menu sleeve students created mock-ups of the final designs.

I chose to utilize a Sumi illustration style that heavily leaned on kinetic energy and forms. This and the other visual concepts I chose helped keep interest within the design and made the whole piece feel connected. On top of the visual style, I created a stronger hierarchy for the text to improve readability.
