REDESIGN
Design students were tasked with redesigning the menu for the local Japanese restaurant, Kunkio’s Teriyaki. After conducting research and visiting the restaurant, each designer was required to make informed decisions to create a cohesive visual style that incorporated elements of Japanese culture, imagery, and iconography. While all original copy had to be retained, designers were not restricted by the restaurant’s existing visual identity. Final designs were presented as mock-ups using menu sleeves.
For my redesign, I employed a Sumi-inspired illustration style that emphasized kinetic energy and expressive forms. This approach, along with supporting visual elements, created a unified and engaging design. Additionally, I established a clearer typographic hierarchy to improve readability and enhance the overall user experience.
