YACHT GRAFFITI

Design students were given specific artists to imitate and create large-scale paint pieces. The pieces must include interlocking/nested graffiti-like typography spelling the word “yacht”. Designers also had to make sure the project would work on a scale of roughly 5 feet by 7 feet utilizing only spray paint and spray paint techniques.

Designers were required to illustrate their words on an 11in by 17in a piece of graph paper. After that, they created a digital color comp of their design. To upscale the typography students utilized a technique known as a doodle grid. This technique is when an artist places a large amount of ‘doodle’ like drawings on a wall or space. Then after taking a flat image of the space, the design can be digitally mapped making an easy-to-reference photo for sketching.
